Inside a tiny converted garage, at the end of a driveway in Dooms, an influential music recording studio was born in Tucked away north of Waynesboro, Major Recording Studio ended up with a story larger than its modest start.

Amidst packing for another trip to Nashville recently, Perry was still more than happy to stop and talk about the studio and its founder: Johnny Major.
Perry, a North American Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, had roots in North Carolina but on her way to the heart of country music she discovered a studio just off Route in Dooms.
“[Johnny] took in this little year-old girl who didn’t know anything except performing in talent shows,” the North Carolina native revealed recently of her introduction to Major. “Singing was my whole life.”
